So the WesternUni games competition ran from Sunday the 3rd to Wednesday the 6th of July in Bunbury. Hockey was played at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium with teams from Murdoch University, UWA, The University of Notre Dame and Curtin University. We played each team every day (3 games) which was very hard on our bodies but we still were able to pull through the round games undefeated with 4 drawn games and 2 wins putting us in 1st position on the ladder. On the Wednesday morning we played against Murdoch Uni in the semi final where we unfortunately were defeated 1-0 excluding us from the gold medal match. We then played against Notre Dame in the Bronze medal match where we won 2-1 with goals to Kim Hocking (Melville) and Felicity Gallagher (UWA).
All in all it was a great experience for all involved! The next competition will be the Australian Univeristy Games held in Perth this year against all the universities throughout Australia. The men’s and women’s hockey will be played at PHS from the 25th -30th of September. We have prequalified for this event because of our Division 2 gold medal win during AUG 2015 in the Gold coast. The pirates women involved at AUG are; Robyn Mason, Alison Douglas, Kim Mais, Ash Morris, Holly Oconnor, Caitlin Jarvis and Myself.
