Hi All Pirates,
We hope you have all enjoyed the opening rounds of Season 2022! A massive thank you to the coordinators, coaches and team managers who have done a power of work to get our teams together and out on the field.
We are still chasing some additional numbers for our Women’s Metro side so if you know any past players, friends or family who would be interested in playing Saturday afternoon, grass hockey, please get in touch with Julie at womens@cuhc.org.au
Training
No doubt you will have seen the impact the mid-week premier league fixtures and upcoming Kookaburras vs Malaysia series has had on our April training rotations. Thank you for your patience and flexibility over the next few weeks while we work with Hockey WA to try and access as much turf as is made available to us.
Premier League
Our Premier League men kicked off their season with a highly competitive and entertaining fixture against YMCC last weekend. There were no less than 8 Pirates debutants including our two Hockey Australia draft picks (Ky WIllot and Tokyo Olympic Games silver medalist Dylan Martin) and import players Henry Chambers (Tasmania) and Lukas Plochy (Czech Republic).
Our Premier League Women kick off their season this coming Tuesday 19th against Whitford, 8:30PM PHS1. The PL1 Men play before them against Hale at 7:00PM and our PL2 women and PL3 men play fixtures on Turf 2 at the alternate times. I’d encourage all members and supporters to head down to PHS on Tuesday night to check out the Premier League action and support our sides.
Uniform and Training Gear
A reminder that Republic of Hockey are our equipment and uniform supplier, and all uniform and training attire can be purchased from their Burswood store, 2/94 Burswood Rd, Burswood WA 6100. We have had reports of stock being low and some sizing being unavailable and are working with Republic of Hockey to ensure adequate supply of uniform is available moving forward.
Umpiring
This season all non-premier grades are required to self-supply umpires. While no doubt some teams are choosing to advertise these duties on Whistlers for Hire, this change also provides us with an opportunity to strengthen our Club’s internal umpiring pool. We are looking for nominations to fill an Umpiring Coordinator role and looking to develop a list of club members who would like to regularly umpire our clubs matches. The Coordinator role would start out as a purely administrative role to assist teams and coordinators fill their umpiring requirements, but over time could expand into training and development.
We have reached out to Hockey WA for support in setting up an umpiring training course to help develop competency in our members.
If you are interested in the U mpiring Coordinator role, or would like to regularly umpire, please drop me an email at pres@cuhc.org.au.
Junior Hockey
Junior Hockey within the Hockey WA competitions kicks off over the weekend of the 29th April. We are still on the look out for coaches for our 5/6 boys and 7/8 girls. If you are able to volunteer your time to help nurture the next generation of Pirates, please reach out to Amy at juniors@cuhc.org.au
Minkey and Grads kick off on the 7th of May. To incentivize participation we are including Stick Packs (Sick, ball and shin pads) as part of the $60 registration for a 14 week program. If you, your family or friends have kids aged 4 and above, we’d love to have them involved in our Minkey program!
