Curtin University Hockey Club – February Update

Pirates PresidentUncategorized

Hi All Pirates,

Happy New Year!

And just like that we are into pre-season 2022! Our premier league squads have been training since early January and before we know it, it will be March and we will be into regular turf training at PHS!

Season Calendar:

Senior, Masters and Junior season calendars have been released by Hockey WA https://www.hockeywa.org.au/compsevents/2022season/. The season is set for a later start this year, with the non-premier grades kicking off proceedings on the weekend of the 1st of April. Premier League commences thereafter with midweek fixtures to get the season rolling.

Grading Day:

Grading Day is scheduled for Saturday 26th of February 2022 from 9:30 – 12:00 noon at PHS. We have both turfs booked for Men’s and Women’s grading and will have a BBQ lunch available post formalities. RSVP via the Facebook event (https://fb.me/e/2oyGK8tDH) or via email to Jonah and Julie at mens@cuhc.org.au and womens@cuhc.org.au respectively.

Curtin University O-Day and VC Sports Day:

Curtin University are holding their O-Day, Wednesday 23rd of February 10-4pm and VC Sports Day Friday 25th of February 3-6PM. These events provide us with an opportunity to engage with the student population and bring new members to our club. We will be having stalls and activations at both events, so if you are a current student and can volunteer your time to help run our stall and grow the club, please contact Amy and Tony at curtinliaison@cuhc.org.au and recruitment@cuhc.org.au respectively.

Discounted Gym Memberships:

Curtin University are offering affiliated clubs with discounted access to the gym facilities on campus. The initiative is set up such that the discount increases with the number of club memberships purchased. If we sign up to purchase 40 memberships or more, we can access a 50% discount (discounted rate of $300 per annum). Please drop me a line at pres@cuhc.org.au if you would be interested so we can guage feasibility of supporting this initiative.

Outstanding Fees:

For those who attended the AGM, you will be aware that there is a not insignificant amount of unpaid fees owing over the recent seasons. With a new treasurer coming on board this year we will be re-issuing invoices for any unpaid debts. So if you know you have fees or uniform payment outstanding, anticipate some correspondence from Matt in the coming weeks.

COVID-19:

With community transmission growing in our state, COVID-19 will no doubt impact season 2022 in some way, shape or form.  Hockey WA are getting on the front foot and have developed a COVID Safety Plan to provide a framework for dealing with various scenarios throughout the season. This is a broad ranging document which covers Hockey Operations (including competitions and fixture impacts), Venue Operations (access to PHS and clarity over vaccination requirements) and Performance and Development. I’ll be attending a Presidents Q& A on the plan tomorrow night and will communicate the relevant content to our membership in due course.

Keep an eye out for further communications regarding registration. We hope to have online registrations live for grading day on the 26th of February.

Look forward to seeing you all again soon,

Tom
